Medik8 Crystal Retinal Review On Sensitive Skin
Medik8 Crystal Retinal Review: 11x Faster Than Retinol And Suitable For Sensitive Skin? Here’s What I Thought
I first discovered Medik8 Crystal Retinal when looking to revive my tired 30 something skin, which seemed to be taking longer and longer to bounce back from a busy, social lifestyle and beginning to show the first signs of ageing.
I’d long ago written off retinol having had a bad experience in my twenties. I had bought a bottle of far too strong concentration off the shelf and used it daily for a week without really knowing anything about retinol and how to properly use it. This resulted in angry red blotches and dry skin across my face that took 6 months to heal and a vow to never try it again.
But it was difficult to keep ignoring the benefits of using retinol - retinol is one of the only proven products to actually reduce the signs of ageing and even reverse them, and so after years of avoiding it, I decided to give it ago again and this time to do my research beforehand. I knew I wanted something suitable for my sometimes sensitive skin and I knew I needed the lowest strength possible to begin with to ensure I did not repeat my past mistakes.
Medik8 Crystal Retinal seemed to fit the bill and the incredible amount of reviews seeing amazing results in a short space of time, and with very few people seeming to have adverse effects, had me purchasing the product as quickly as possible.
Medik8 Crystal Retinal comes in 5 strengths. Crystal Retinal 1 which is recommended for very sensitive skin, Crystal Retinal 3 which is recommended for most people who are new to Medik8, and is also a great choice for sensitive skin and for those who have not used retinol before. This is where I started. As your skin gets used to each level, you move up to the next including Crystal Retinal 6, Crystal Retinal 10, and there is also a Crystal Retinal 20 which requires a consultation with Medik8 professionals before purchase.
Medik8 Crystal Retinal is different to the standard retinol products on the market. Retinoic acid is the form of retinol your skin can utilise, however cells convert retinol into retinaldehyde and then into retinoic acid. But Medik8 Crystal Retinal skips a step in the conversion process, harnessing encapsulated retinaldehyde, a revolutionary new form of vitamin A, to give you the same results but up to 11x faster and with less irritation to the skin.
“My skin felt soft and dewy and my complexion was glowing”
The first time I used Crystal Retinal 3 I noticed an instant tingling on my face. I had applied a small pea sized amount across my face at night, as instructed, but the tingling never became uncomfortable and when I woke up I couldn’t help notice how well I looked. Like I’d had the best night’s sleep of my life. My skin felt soft and dewy and my complexion was glowing. I also noticed that a couple of spots I had the night before were no longer in existence. An unexpected bonus. The only downside (and it is a small one) is that I noticed that my skin did feel the tiniest bit sensitive in the morning. Like I’d just had a very thorough exfoliating treatment, but again it was only subtle and it didn’t last very long.
As instructed I had done a patch test first to ensure no adverse effects, then after my first use, I started using it only twice a week and slowly built up to using it almost every other night over a period of a few weeks. I also added factor 30 suncreen to my morning skincare routine. Retinol products make your skin much more sensitive to the sun so it is important to ensure you’re protected.
The bottle lasted about 3 months and there was no doubt that my skin had improved. Fine lines seemed to be reduced, my skin bounced back from late nights instantly and I now had a secret weapon to tackle spots or uneven skin overnight, perfect if you have an event coming up that you want to look your best for.
Once my bottle of Medik8 Crystal Retinal 3 was complete, I moved up to the next level, Crystal Retinal 6 and I can honestly say I am very happy with the Medik8 formula. I have had absolutely no adverse effects and this little miracle in a bottle has kept me fresh faced during an entire pandemic and that alone makes it worth every penny.
